SIMPLE DETOX DRINKS

Spa’s aren’t the only place to drink fancy water combinations for your well-being!  Here are four simple detox drinks you can make at home, with regular ingredients you can find at a grocery store.

Cucumber is a popular fruit used in detox drinks or spa waters, and for good reason.

Cucumbers are a great source of vitamin B, potassium and magnesium, and have anti-cancer benefits. They also contain anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory’s and are mostly made of water making them the perfect ingredient.

Lemon Juice Balances pH Levels in the Body

It seems like the opposite of what you should consume since lemons are known as “acidic”, but drinking fresh lemon juice is excellent for maintaining a balanced pH level in the body. They actually have incredible alkalizing properties.

Pair cucumbers with ice, lemon slices, basil and water and let refrigerate for a perfect detoxifying, calorie-free drink.

Grapefruit is  packed with enzymes and antioxidants to kick-start your body’s natural detox function, but also to nourish your cells with vitamin C. This vitamin is a powerful antioxidant and is known as anti-aging. Fruits also boost your metabolism and help the body eliminate the waste more rapidly.

We know that mint has been known to improve digestion, help with nausea and headaches, and even has germicidal qualities which quickly freshens breath when you chew on a mint leaf or take orally.

“An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.”

This is for good reason. Apples provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory flavonoids and carotenoids.

The antioxidant composition of apples provides us with protection from possible oxidation of fats (called lipid peroxidation).  For that reason, this benefit of consuming apples is a key factor in lowering risk of many chronic heart problems. Recent research has shown that the quercetin (a flavonoid found in foods like onions, berries, green tea, etc.) content of apples also provides our cardiovascular system with anti-inflammatory benefits.  All of that in simple terms means it’s good for your heart.

Compounds found in watermelon—flavonoids, carotenoids, and triterpenoids—give this fruit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant health benefits.

It packs a huge dose of lycopene.  Plus it’s made up of about 92% water, as a result water flushes toxins out of your body naturally.

Cool fact about lycopene-

People take lycopene to prevent heart disease, atherosclerosis, and certain cancers.  It’s also used to treat HPV!  Then there’s the treatment of cataracts and asthma.  See Webmd for more information.
